Time flies when you’re having fun and — also while you’re doing a lot of crying. This is Us is headed into its fifth season this fall so that means three of the show’s leading characters – Kevin, Kate, and Randall Pearson — are facing a big milestone.
This Is Us Milestone
Diehard fans of the NBC nighttime serial know that the show’s original title was “36,” a reference to the ages of Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz), and Randall (Sterling K. Brown). It was later changed to This is Us. Sure, the show does a lot of time-jumping, but four years have passed in the program’s current era. That means that Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) children are turning 40 years old this year!
The show has done a promo, released on social media, promoting this fact. Check it out below. The post reads: “And just like that, we’re 40! The Big Three wish The Big Three a happy birthday!”
This Is Us tells the story of the Pearson family throughout the decades. In a single episode, characters will be dealing with events in modern day. The story will shift to flashbacks, revealing events and how they were handled and how that informs characters today.
Fans love dissecting ‘flash-forwards’, seeing which characters have survived into the future, and debating what it may or may not mean if someone isn’t shown in a scene. Viewers were devastated when Jack died after surviving the house fire, but fortunately, he pops up regularly in flashbacks and in alternate-reality episodes.
One of last season’s most shocking moments was the showdown between Kevin and Randall. Kevin said hurtful things to his brother that can never be taken back. Will Randall and Kevin mend fences? Don’t miss This is Us when it returns in November with a special two-hour premiere. This is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. The show’s 5th season returns on Tuesday, November 10.
