It’s that time of year again when renewal notices for primetime series start getting announced. And there’s some very good news for fans of Fox programs 9-1-1 and The Resident!

Michael Thorn, entertainment president at Fox Broadcasting Co., has given good news to fans of the shows – both programs are being picked up for third seasons!

“9-1-1 redefined what a procedural series can be, consistently delivering edge-of-your-seat emergencies, mixed with emotional story arcs and incredible performances from one of the most powerful teams of actors on television,” said Thorn.

“Kudos to [creators/executive producers] Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Tim Minear and their entire crew, as well as the amazing cast anchored by Angela Bassett [Athena], Peter Krause [Bobby], and Jennifer Love Hewitt [Maddie] for raising the bar week after week.”

Thorn also gave high praise to the folks who bring The Resident to life. “Amy Holden Jones [co-creator], Todd Harthan [executive producer], and the team behind The Resident continue to showcase their brilliant storytelling, revealing both the triumphs and tragedy within the medical world.

“Matt Czuchry [Conrad], Emily VanCamp [Nicolette], and Bruce Greenwood [Randolph], along with the stellar cast, have developed rich and compelling characters through their heartfelt performances. Both 9-1-1 and The Resident have many, many more stories to tell and we can’t wait to deliver them to fans next season.”

In tonight’s episode of The Resident, titled Emergency Contact, Conrad and Alec (Miles Gaston Villanueva, ex-Luca, The Young and the Restless) team up to help a gymnast experiencing unusual symptoms. Meanwhile, Nicolette’s sister has reunited with their estranged dad Kyle (Corbin Bernsen, ex-Father Todd, Y&R).

On tonight’s 9-1-1, titled Chimeny Begins, viewers see how Chimney (Kenneth Choi) joined station 118 and became the firefighter/paramedic he is today.

The Resident airs on Fox at 8 p.m. ET on Mondays while 9-1-1 airs on Fox at 9 p.m. ET on Mondays.
