The Walking Dead Postpones Its Finale Episode Due To Pandemic

The Walking Dead is ending its season on a high note, with some outstanding episodes leading to the season’s end. In the past two weeks, we’ve seen the beheading of Alpha (Samantha Morton), Michonne (Danai Gurira) leave on a quest to find Rick (Andrew Lincoln), and perhaps the beginning of the next big chapter with Eugene (Josh McDermitt) making a “date” to meet his radio-mate Stephanie.

The Walking Dead Spoiler Warning

If you aren’t familiar with the comics and what’s coming next, consider this your spoiler warning to not read further.

Those events have set up some interesting things to play out in the final episodes, most notably the expected end to the war with The Whisperers, and the potential introduction of The Commonwealth, which comic fans know will be a game-changer for our characters.

In the comic, The Commonwealth is a working civilization of more than 50,000 people, living in various towns, but unlike life in Alexandria or The Hilltop, things appear to be running much smoother with not as much threat. This is the kind of place that our characters have been building to—at least it appears to be.

But in news that is sure to make every Walking Dead fan’s blood boil, according to TVLine, the current season will end with its 15th episode on April 5, meaning there will be no immediate closure.

The official word is that even though the finale was shot months and months ago, post-production issues due to the coronavirus pandemic has made it impossible to get the episode finished on time. Plans are to air the last episode of the season at a later date.

Fans’ Alternate Theory

Skeptical fans are speculating that the real reason is AMC has decided to delay The Walking Dead: World Beyond to later in the year, and they want the finale to air before that show, bringing in more viewers to the premiere episode.

Whatever the case, as past seasons have shown, there’s not going to be much of a resolution to anything after episode 15. The show’s writers like to go all-out in the finales, and usually, the episode leading up to it is kind of a bore.

Odds are, in these next two episodes, there will be no resolution on any of the stories we are following. Will Daryl find Connie? Will Eugene meet up with Stephanie? Will Negan’s newfound teaming with Carol lead to victory over The Whisperers? And which of our favorites survive it all? So many questions, and sadly, now we’ll have to wait for the answers.
