Margot Bingham, best known for portraying jazz singer Daughter Maitland in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, will officially become part of the Walking Dead universe.
According to Deadline, this will happen during the AMC show’s 11th season. Fans of The Walking Dead are already familiar with Bingham’s voice, as she provided voiceovers in two episodes this past season as Stephanie, the “friendly” voice on the radio that Eugene (Josh McDermitt) communicates with.
The events of the final episode that aired had Eugene, Ezekiel, Yumiko, and new ally Princess heading towards West Virginia at a planned meeting site with Stephanie.
The actress posted to her Twitter account confirming the news. “My new fam,” she wrote, above a photo of her and her comic counterpart.
Comic fans know (spoiler alert!) that Stephanie is part of the Commonwealth, a mega-community that plays a major role in the final arc of Robert Kirkman’s series. It’s assumed that this will be the next big chapter explored in Season 11.
According to the news website, The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang indicated that the series will go from being set in its usual rural backdrop to more urban environments, which makes this theory plausible.
Bingham’s other TV credits include playing Clorinda Bradford on Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It on Netflix, Evie on NBC’s New Amsterdam, and CBS All Access’ One Dollar. Her feature credits include Alan Yang’s Tigertail, Barbershop: The Next Cut, and the Tribeca Film Festival feature Saturday Church.
The Walking Dead last aired on April 5, with the final episode of Season 10 postponed due to delays caused by COVID-19. It’s expected that the show will air that final episode sometime this summer.
Whether Stephanie will be in that episode is unknown, but it wouldn’t be surprising for Eugene and company to meet up with her, setting up a cliffhanger as to what’s to come.
