“CASTING ANNOUNCEMENT!” tweeted out the account for PassionFlix. “We are thrilled to welcome the brilliant Charles Shaughnessy to the Driven family. Charles will be playing the role of Andy, Colton’s [Casey Deidrick, ex-Chad, DAYS] adoptive father. #DrivenSeries #passionflix.”

The news was met with immediate enthusiasm from fans of both Driven and of Shaughnessy’s. “@C_Shaughnessy so happy with this announcement when I [read] these books I so pictured you as Andy in every sense of word,” posted @tvmoviesparks88.

“THIS!” Shaughnessy tweeted. “Having a wonderful (and SAFE!) time working with an extraordinary cast and crew led by the incomparable [director] @ToscaMusk Can’t wait to share this with you all. #drivenseries #theshowmustgoon #WorkandStaySafe @PassionFlix.”

As viewers of Driven are aware, the show’s about a resilient girl named Rylee (Olivia Grace Applegate) with a “tragic past and a heart of gold” who falls in love with Deidrick’s character, Colton Donavan, a bad boy race car driver.

Deidrick originated the role of Chad in 2009 and played the part until 2013, which means he could have run into his future onscreen father while on the soap set, as Shaughnessy did return as Shane during those years.

Shaughnessy shot to fame after being cast as Shane on DAYS in 1984. He played a debonair ISA Agent who kept the world safe from Stefano DiMera (ironically, Chad’s dad), played by the late Joe Mascolo, but it was his love story with Kimberly Brady (Patsy Pease) that endeared him to viewers.

After spending several years in Salem, Shaughnessy said farewell to DAYS and was cast on The Nanny as Maxwell Sheffield opposite Fran Drescher’s Fran Fine. That series ran from 1993-99. Shaughnessy reunited with Drescher on the short-lived series Life With Fran in 2005. Driven streams on PassionFlix.
