Former Sunset Beach and Daytime Emmy nominee Sherri Saum has been keeping very busy since fans fell in love with her on the NBC soap. After a successful five-year run on The Fosters as well as countless other shows, the actress will star in the Power spinoff, Power Book II: Ghost for its first season.

Sherri Saum Has A New Project

On her Twitter account, Saum confirmed the news, which was first reported by Deadline — saying “finally get to share the news.”

The actress recently appeared on Netflix’s Locke & Key and enjoyed a prominent guest spot on the ABC long-running hit, Grey’s Anatomy — as the show revealed more about the late friend of Teddy’s whom she named her daughter after.

Of course, daytime fans remember Saum as the bright and beautiful journalist Vanessa Hart, who along with Jason George’s Michael Bourne, formed one of Sunset Beach’s most popular super couples. Both have gone on to successful primetime careers, with George currently starring in ABC’s Station 19 after appearing on Grey’s Anatomy, and Saum also appearing on Roswell, New Mexico and Limetown.

Details of the Courtney Kemp-created Power Book II: Ghost have been few and far between, but the spinoff will also star Mary J. Blige, Michael Rainey Jr, Naturi Naughton, and Cliff ‘Method Man’ Smith.

According to the Deadline article, Saum will play Paula Matarazzo, a top investigator and right-hand to defense lawyer Davis MacLean (played by Smith).

The Starz show will pick up shortly after the fatal and incarcerating February 9 airing conclusion of the sixth and final season of Power. So, her investigator skills may come in handy as MacLean works on getting Naughton’s Tasha St. Patrick out of jail for the apparent murder of her husband, one James St. Patrick/Ghost.

The show isn’t the only Power spinoff in the works. Others include Power Book III: Raising Kanan and the Empire State politics of Power Book IV: Influence. Down the pike will be Power Book V: Force, which sees mothership show vet Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) out of the Big Apple and now up to no good in the City of Angels.
