Real-life can be just like soap operas that are known for their paternity shocking twists! Now, one has come to light involving the late Ja’Net DuBois, beloved as Willona Woods on Good Times.
Ja’Net Dubois’s Family Reveals Paternity News
According to TMZ, DuBois’s family is declaring that her father was the late jazz legend Cab Calloway – it seems. The news came to light courtesy of her death certificate, which lists Calloway as the father, that was released by L.A. County.
Both DuBois and Calloway certainly have musical talent in common. She both sang and co-wrote the iconic theme song to The Jeffersons, which told the story of George (Sherman Hemsley) and Louise (Isabel Sanford) moving from their lower-middle-class neighborhood to a “deluxe apartment in the sky.”
Calloway sang and dance in the swing era and helped establish Harlem’s famous Cotton Club. But it’s possible that, in the words of Maury Povich, that Calloway is not the father!
In biographies for DuBois, her pop is listed as Gordon Dubois and her mom is Lillian Gouedy. On the death certificate, however, Mr. Dubois’s name isn’t found.
Ja’Net’s daughter gave the information for the death certificate. Asked to clarify what the deal is by TMZ, she said that Gordon was wed to Lillian and “instrumental” in bringing up Ja’Net.
Calloway’s estate tells TMZ: “While we have a great appreciation for Ja’Net DuBois’ long and successful career, the Calloway Estate has nothing to add to this single document that has numerous mistakes and no verification.”
The Calloway family says they are open to talking to DuBois’s family provided there were “compelling facts to substantiate” the paternity the family is claiming.
DuBois died on February 17 of heart failure at the age of 74. She appeared last December at the end of Live From A Studio Audience on ABC. The show recreated live episodes of both Good Times and All in The Family.
