While many people have spent their time trapped at home during the pandemic watching Netflix, working around the house, and rediscovering new hobbies, superstar Taylor Swift has been a bit more productive.
The singer announced on her social media accounts that she wrote and recorded an entire new album while in isolation. “Surprise Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my 8th studio album, folklore; an entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into,” Swift posted on her Twitter account.
Only 30 years old, Swift has sold more than 50 million albums and 150 million singles globally and is one of the world’s best-selling music artists of all time. She’s won 10 Grammy Awards, an Emmy, and has taken home more American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards than any woman in history.
Swift’s last album, Lover, came out less than a year ago, but when her tour promoting the recording was cancelled due to the pandemic, she decided to get to work on a new album, thus Folklore was born.
“The music video for ‘cardigan’ will premiere tonight, which I wrote/directed,” Swift noted on her Instagram account. “A million thank you’s to my brilliant, bad ass video team – cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, producer Jil Hardin, executive producer Rebecca Skinner, AD Joe ‘Oz’ Osbourne, editor Chancler Haynes, special effects wizards David Lebensfeld & Grant Miller, and set designer Ethan Tobman. The entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector, everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other, and I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling.”
Although she did the whole thing at home, Swift noted she had help from co-writers like Grammy Award-winning indie crooner Bon Iver and frequent Swift collaborator Jack Antonoff. Fans around the world are expected to make this one of the top-selling albums of 2020!
