The final season of Empire will premiere later this month, but until then here’s a sneak peek to hold you over! Star Taraji P. Henson, who plays the iconic Cookie Lyon, revealed it to her followers.
“Hold on tight — #Empire’s coming back with more drama. Double tap if you’re ready for the final season to premiere,” the post was captioned. And once you watch, you’ll be more than ready for the new season to start
“I started this empire, built it from the ground up,” Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) says in the clip, while Cookie adds, “Don’t get it twisted, I still run this b—ch. Don’t you ever forget that.”
Judging by the dramatic clip, the season looks to be full of betrayal, potential deaths, love, and most importantly, family. The sixth and final season will start up on Tuesday, September 24.
While stars like Henson, Howard, Trai Byers, and Bryshere Y. Gray are all returning to the series, Jussie Smollet is not coming back. Smollett was accused of staging his own hate crime earlier this year in Chicago, and he was subsequently cut out of the last few episodes of Season 5.
Though the charges against Smollett were ultimately dropped — and he maintained his innocence throughout the entire ordeal — it was revealed by series creator Lee Daniels back in June that Smollett would not be returning as Jamal Lyon, the role that made him famous, for the final season.
“This is not factual. Jussie will NOT be returning to Empire,” Daniels tweeted over the summer while responding to an article that claimed Smollett would be coming back.
