After the final episode of ABC’s Station 19 aired, there were rumblings that one of its stars, Jason George, would return to the mothership, AKA Grey’s Anatomy. In fact, the series finale set up this transition when his character broke it to 19’s captain, Andy Herrera, that he was ready to be a doctor again. He handed her his two-week notice.
Say Goodbye to Firefighter Ben Warren
Well, now it’s official. According to Deadline, the former daytime soap star will again wear scrubs on the primetime juggernaut. George’s character, Dr. Ben Warren, will start appearing during the show’s upcoming 21st season. (Find out more about the actor here)
Ultimately, the decision had to be a no-brainer. After all, Warren is 1) Married to Chandra Wilson’s Dr. Miranda Bailey, one of the OG Grey’s characters. The two share a family. 2) Warren simply has to toss his firefighting gear aside and return to his surgical residency. And 3) George’s character has continued appearing on Grey’s Anatomy in the numerous crossovers between the sister shows.
George first introduced his character in season six of the ABC drama. He became a series regular in season 12 and then left the show in the 14th season to help anchor the Station 19 spinoff. During Ben Warren’s seven years in the firefighter drama, he helped people with his expert firefighting and medic skills. He and Miranda adopted Dean Miller’s daughter after he died in the line of duty. Also, Warren was diagnosed with a form of testicular cancer.
Before hitting it big on Grey’s and Station 19, George starred in the daytime universe. He played lifeguard Michael Bourne on Sunset Beach. He appeared in all two years of the short-lived soap opera.
Soap Hub would like to congratulate Jason George on his continued success in primetime.
