The unnamed, Star Wars: Episode IX film lost its director, Colin Trevorrow, and fans cannot decide if they’re happy or sad about the somewhat surprising news.
The movie, slated to hit theaters in 2019, is supposedly the last in the epic Star Wars franchise, and not everyone had faith in Trevorrow to bring the incredibly important story to life.
According to a CNET report, Disney said in a released statement:
“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on ‘Star Wars: Episode IX,’. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”
This news didn’t come as a huge surprise for some Star Wars fans who never wanted the director of “Jurassic World” and “Safety Not Guaranteed” to direct this movie. In fact, many expressed their unmitigated joy at hearing the news.
Others, though, took to Twitter to express their unhappiness at a change at this point in the game.
Of course, now, one of the biggest questions is who will replace Trevorrow? Ron Howard recently took over the directing reigns of the franchise’s stand alone Hans Solo film from directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, so it likely won’t be him.
Is there anybody you’d love to see come in and finish this series, 4 decades in the making? Let us know how you feel about the shakeup in the comments below!
