Entertainment News: Love and Family
Halle Berry made headlines this week when she faked out her friends and fans. The actress made a post that looked a heck of a lot like she got married to her boyfriend, Van Hunt. But, it was all in good fun and there is no ring on Halle’s finger.
Kanye West is back in the dating world. He was seen out and about with Julia Fox in Miami. Reports state the pair were friendly and flirty but there is no word on whether this is anything more than a casual encounter.
ABC News anchor Jennifer Ashton is getting married! The chief medical news correspondent became engaged on New Year’s Eve to her boyfriend Tom Werner. The couple began dating last year.
It’s time for baby #3 for Nicholas Cage. The 57-year-old actor is expecting a baby with Riko Shibata. The little one will join Cage’s other children, 31-year-old son, Weston, and 16-year-old son, Kal-El. This will be Riko’s first child.
Award Season News
The Grammy’s are taking a pause this year, at least for the time being. The award show has postponed their trophy season indefinitely in light of the rising Covid outbreak numbers. Deadline has all the details.
Crime and Punishment
Alleged professional fraudster, Elizabeth Holmes, is facing prison time after being found guilty on four of the eleven charges she was facing. The Theranos founder became famous after publicly falling from grace as her shady business practices unraveled. TMZ has all the details.
Amy Schneider may be winning on Jeopardy! but she has some real-life drama going on off-screen. The show’s most prominent female winner was robbed on January 2nd. She was forced to hand over her ID, credit cards, and her cell phone. Thankfully, she is not hurt.
Jana Duggar was back in the headlines. The Counting On star pled guilty to child endangerment to charges stemming from a September child care failure incident. As the story goes, Jana was in charge of too many kids at once and one went on the lamb. Luckily, neighbors noticed and no children were hurt.
Entertainment News: Illness and Injury
George Lopez became ill during his New Year’s Eve headlining show and had to leave the stage. Reports state the comedian repeatedly asked for water before cutting his spotlight short. The venue canceled his later show as well.
Whoopi Goldberg tested positive for Covid. The star missed The View’s return on Monday and will remain in quarantine for a few more days. Don’t worry, fans, the star is vaxxed, boosted, and her symptoms are mild.
Also taking a pause because of Covid is Hoda Kotb. The Today’s Show co-anchor is in quarantine after a positive result. She is in good spirits and her symptoms are mild – which she contributes to being vaccinated and boosted.
Rocker David Lee Roth had to step out of his Vegas spotlight. He canceled all performance dates due to Covid outbreaks. He joins a long list of other artists who are taking a step back from touring as case numbers continue skyrocketing.
Celebrity Scandals
Anchorman’s David Koechner was in the news, and not in a good way. The funnyman wasn’t laughing after receiving a DUI over the weekend. According to TMZ, he was pulled over on New Year’s Eve and rang in 2022 behind bars.
Also arrested on NYE was Kodak Black. The rapper was charged with trespassing after visiting friends in an area he supposedly was banned from. He denies he was in the wrong, though, and vows to fight the arrest.
Entertainment News: In Memoriam
Legendary actor, Sir Sidney Poitier, died on January 7th. The groundbreaking activist and iconic star broke barriers in Hollywood and was the first black man to win an Oscar. He took home the Best Actor trophy in 1963 for his role in Lilies of the Field. He was appointed a Knight Commander of the British Empire in 1974, and in 2009 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He was 94 years old.
Musician Jason “Jay” Weaver died from complications from Covid-19. The ‘Big Daddy Weave’ singer lost both his feet in 2016 after an infection ravaged his body. His family is asking for privacy as they grieve his loss.
The Mack star Max Julien has passed away. The actor rose to fame in his role in the 1973 film and went on to star in many more flicks. While his career didn’t move much past the ’70s, he was well-loved by fans.
NFL star Dan Reeves is dead at 77. The football legend lost his battle after a long illness. He rose to sports fame coaching for the Broncos, Giants, and Falcons.
Comic Book Men’s Robert Bruce was found dead on January 2nd. The 62-year-old actor was in the office of his storage facility when he was found. Bruce starred in the Kevin Smith AMC tv show from 2012-2018.
Iconic actor and director, Peter Bogdanovich, passed away on January 6th at 82 years old. He rose to fame with hit movies such as The Last Picture Show and went on to have a career spanning decades. His last project, Nightwalkers, was released last year.
