Selma Blair is not afraid to open up about her struggle with multiple sclerosis and how the diagnosis has affected her life.
The actress took to Instagram to remember a time prior to her diagnosis and though times have been difficult, she is remembering to live in the present.
“A beautiful summer night in Miami. My flare was already hitting. I didn’t know what was happening. But I sat outside and had a gorgeous dinner with my dear friend,” she wrote.
“All we have is right now. This. Is the past. But I remember knowing to just feel the warmth in the breeze. The gift of this trip. Under the table my leg was dead.”
Though her body was acting up, she was also thankful for so many things, including her son, Arthur.
“I couldn’t stay awake and my right hand couldn’t find my mouth. But I was happy. My son is asleep next to me. I hear his breathing,” she wrote.
“That of a tender soul, a young boy who will wake full of energy. I am going to curl up next to him. Cause that is what this wonderful life can bring. The now. The now I love. So… goodnight.”
Blair first went public with her diagnosis back in October on Instagram.
“I have #multiplesclerosis . I am in an exacerbation. By the grace of the lord, and will power and the understanding producers at Netflix , I have a job. A wonderful job,” she wrote.
“I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken GPS. But we are doing it. And I laugh and I don’t know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best.”
She continued, “I am in the thick of it but I hope to give some hope to others. And even to myself. You can’t get help unless you ask. It can be overwhelming in the beginning. You want to sleep.”
