It’s a sad day for fans of Saved By the Bell’s Screech, as his portrayer, Dustin Diamond, was hospitalized in Florida.
Dustin Diamond Medical Episode
According to TMZ, Diamond was rushed to the ER this weekend after feeling pain all over his body and a general sense of unease, and sources revealed his medical team is worried it’s cancer.
Diamond’s family has a history of cancer and the actor is awaiting the results of his biopsy to get some answers.
The actor rose to fame as part of the NBC hit show and was an original cast member of Good Morning, Miss Bliss, the Disney show that spurred Saved By the Bell in 1989. He also appeared on Saved By The Bell the New Class and Saved By the Bell: The College Years.
Notably, when the reboot of Saved by the Bell happened this past year on Peacock, Samuel “Screech” Powers was nowhere to be found, with the characters explaining he was up on the International Space Station with his robot, Kevin, who was introduced in an episode of the original series.
Diamond was the only original cast member absent, as Mario Lopez (Slater) and Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie) are regulars, playing Bayside’s gym teacher and guidance counselor, respectively; Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zach) and Tiffani Thiessen (Kelly) are on semi-regular now that Zach is the governor of California and he and Kelly have a son at Bayside; and even Lark Voorhies (Lisa) Zoomed in for an episode.
Rumors swirled that Diamond wasn’t asked back due to several real-life controversies the actor has been involved with over the years. He served three months in prison for a stabbing incident at a bar in Wisconsin and he also released a tell-all book, Behind the Bell, which placed his costars in a bad light. Though Diamond had said a ghostwriter was responsible for the untruths, it’s clear why he wasn’t welcomed back with open arms.
Entertainment Hub wishes Diamond well on his recovery.
