Sarah Michelle Gellar and John Callahan
It’s often been said (and often debunked) that behind the scenes, soap operas are like a family. However, as far as Sarah Michelle Gellar is concerned, she had a familial-like bond with one of her former All My Children co-stars.
“Get past the horrible eyebrows on me and you will notice the incredibly handsome man, standing beside, me at my high school graduation,” Gellar wrote alongside a photo of John Callahan (ex-Edmund), her co-star from All My Children, the soap on which she played Erica’s (Susan Lucci) daughter, Kendall Hart.
“That’s #JohnCallahan or better know to me as GP (but why I called him that remains between us and those closest to him),” Gellar shares, adding, “He stepped into a lot of moments in my life because I didn’t have a father to be there. Johns greatest joy in his life, was when he had a daughter of his own @kaya_callahan.
“John left us this morning. I promise you GP just as you were there for me, I will always be there for smoosh (Kaya) and [Callahan’s ex-wife] @evalarue as well. I will tape a pic of you to my handheld mirror (that’s for you @kellyripa ) This is all too much, especially right now, but I want the world to know how much you meant to so many people. #RIPJohnCallahan.”
LaRue was deeply touched by her pal’s post. “Sooo Beautiful My sweet sister! I love you❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” LaRue posted. Another ex-AMC star also chimed in on Gellar’s emotional post. “No words still,” posted Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley; host, Live with Kelly and Ryan).
“I’m just stunned Sarah,” responded Winsor Harmon, whose AMC character Del was paired romantically and left town with Kendall in 1995. “John was a man’s man with a big heart and I know he loved you dearly. Sending prayers and blessings. Love you God Bless🙏♥️.” Entertainment Hub sends sincere condolences to Callahan’s loved ones, friends, and fans at this difficult time.
