Sarah Michelle Gellar Looks Back At Her All My Children Days

During a recent trip to ABC in New York City, Sarah Michelle Gellar took the time to reflect on the role that made her a household name among soap opera fans. She threw in a few flashback pictures from the 1990s to show how she’s both changed and also stayed the same!

“Gulp… 27 years ago on Feb 24, 1993, I came to this building, for my first day as Kendall Hart on All My Children,” Gellar posted.” (Omg those eyebrows- thank goodness they grow back).”

Gellar hit the ground running as trouble-making Kendall Hart, the daughter given up at birth by her glamorous and successful mom, Erica Kane (Susan Lucci). Kendall and Erica sparred often over many things — Kendall felt abandoned, Erica felt violated (as Kendall was conceived in rape). Kendall went on to create problems for other characters on the show too.

She appeared on AMC during a golden age when co-stars and real-life pals included Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Maria (Eva LaRue). Gellar won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Leading Actress in a Drama Series in 1995 and left Pine Valley soon after. In one of Gellar’s last appearances as the character, Kendall and Erica shared a cordial farewell.

Gellar has worked regularly over the last quarter-century/post-daytime. Her biggest credit was playing the title character in The WB’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She hit the big screen in Cruel Intentions.

While Gellar never took on a dual role during her stint in daytime as many soap stars do, she did play twins Bridget Kelly and Siobhan Martin in the short-lived Ringer on The CW in 2010. That same year, Gellar returned for a cameo on AMC as the show was, sadly, exiting the airwaves after a 41-year run.

In 2013, she returned to being a series regular on the sitcom The Crazy Ones, which starred the late Robin Williams. The actress reprised her Cruel Intentions role as Kathryn in 2016 in a TV movie of the same name as the feature film. Coming up next for Gellar are the projects: Sometimes I Lie, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, and Other People’s Houses.
