Sam Smith Used To ‘Starve Himself For Weeks’

Sam Smith is getting honest with his fans about his serious struggles with body image and how it has taken a toll on his emotional well-being.

The singer has always been honest about his feelings in his music, but the 26-year-old is taking his honesty to social media.

In an Instagram post that was shared on Tuesday, February 12, Sam revealed he suffered from trauma that led him to starve himself.

“In the past if I have ever done a photo shoot with so much as a t-shirt on, I have starved myself for weeks in advance and then picked and prodded at every picture and then normally taken the picture down,” he captioned a photo of himself shirtless.

Though he’s struggled with insecurities in the past, Sam is finally ready to show off his body and be proud of it.

“Yesterday I decided to fight the f—k back. Reclaim my body and stop trying to change this chest and these hips and these curves that my mum and dad made and love so unconditionally,” he said.

“Some may take this as narcissistic and showing off but if you knew how much courage it took to do this and the body trauma I have experienced as a kid you wouldn’t think those things.”

He continued, “Thank you for helping me celebrate my body AS IT IS @ryanpfluger I have never felt safer than I did with you.”

Despite the fact that he’ll never truly get over his body struggles, Sam knows posting a photo of himself shirtless is progress.

“I’ll always be at war with this bloody mirror but this shoot and this day was a step in the right f—g direction.”

Needless to say, fans were so proud of Sam for his honesty and applauded the star for being vulnerable.
