Celebrities React To Harvey Weinstein Verdict

Sentencing has been set for Wednesday, March 11. Now, people are speaking out on the verdict.

“Today’s outcome in Harvey Weinstein’s New York trial is the result of the decisions of multiple women to come forward to journalists and to prosecutors at great personal cost and risk,” wrote Ronan Farrow, who broke the story of Weinstein’s abuse in the New Yorker, kicking the #metoo movement into high gear. “Please keep those women in your thoughts today.”

Actress Ashley Judd, whose suit against Weinstein was dismissed a year ago, tweeted, “For the women who testified in this case, and walked through traumatic hell, you did a public service to girls and women everywhere, thank you. #ConvictWeinstein #Guilty.”

Actress Ellen Barkin tweeted the names of the women she cited were brave enough to step forward. “Thank you all for your tremendous courage and strength,” the actress posted. “You have changed the future for all of us.”

“Gratitude to the brave women who’ve testified and to the jury for seeing through the dirty tactics of the defense,” posted actress Rosanna Arquette, “we will change the laws in the future so that rape victims are heard and not discredited and so that it’s easier for people to report their rapes.”

Actress Alyssa Milano (Mistresses; Who’s the Boss?) retweeted Amber Tamlyn’s (ex-Emily, General Hospital) tweet #IBelieveAnnabellaSciorra. Annabella Sciorra (The Sopranos) testified that Weinstein had raped her in the 1990s.

Weinstein’s legal battles continue. He is facing charges of rape and sexual assault that he allegedly committed in 2013 in Los Angeles. “We believe the evidence will show that the defendant used his power and influence to gain access to his victims and then commit violent crimes against them,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said in a statement.
