Robin Leach, who hosted the syndicated series Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, has passed away.
Multiple reports say that the TV host and performer died today, August 24, just five days shy of his 77th birthday. The cause of death has been reported as “complications from a stroke.”
Lifestyles of The Rich and Famous ran from 1984 to 1995. Leach’s catchphrase on the show was “champagne wishes and caviar dreams!”
Leach visited the soap world in 1989 when One Life to Live cast him as himself to play the host of the fictional “Daisy Awards.” It was then-executive producer Paul Rauch’s creative response to OLTL being snubbed in major categories at the Daytime Emmys.
Within the show’s storyline, Megan Gordon (played by Jessica Tuck, Cassandra, General Hospital) was nominated for a Daisy Award for Best Actress for her work in the show’s soap-within-a-soap Fraternity Row.
Leach had fans in the soap world, including Jackie Zeman (Bobbie, General Hospital), who appeared on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous in 1986.
Leach’s most recent credit was a two-episode run as himself in the short-lived NBC sitcom Great News.
Soap Hub sends it sincere condolences to Leach’s family, friends, and fans.
