Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin – for the latter, the romance which leapt from storybook to real-life as co-stars on Once Upon a Time was, “Magical. On and off-screen it was magical.”
For Dallas, it was love at first sight. “I knew right away, it was that thing. I turned around and I saw her and I knew I was in trouble… [I thought], ‘this is it.'”
Echoing her spouse, Goodwin admits, “I met him and I knew I was in trouble.” The cause of all that trouble? Dallas was a very married man – to True Blood actress Lara Pulver – and Goodwin was engaged to actor Chris Klein. So, for all intents and purposes, a relationship was (initially) out of the question.
Goodwin recalls, “It actually took us months of being friends until we agreed to date because we were sure, actors meeting on set, we weren’t going to work out.” A divorce for Dallas and a promise from Goodwin was broken and suddenly, “a good handful of months after we said we were only going to be friends, we went on a date, then moved [in] together…”
Wedding Rings and Baby Bumps
In October 2013, Dallas and Goodwin officially announced their engagement and, not long after, Goodwin revealed that she was expecting – but neither was particularly concerned about rushing down the aisle for the sake of the babe. At least, not at first.
“We thought of ourselves as exceptionally modern and we were like, ‘We don’t need to get married. We’ll get married later,'” remembers Goodwin. “And then I was nine months pregnant and we were like, ‘We totally need to get married,’ so at nine months, we invited like maybe 25 people.'”
The ceremony was held on April 12, 2014, and though a source described the bride and groom as seeming, “very relaxed and happy,” an act of vandalism nearly marred the happy day.
As explained by Goodwin, a thief plundered her wedding planner’s car hours before the event was to begin and made off with the couple’s ketubah (a Jewish wedding contract). The special paper was later found on the street by two practitioners of the Jewish faith and returned.
One month later on May 29, Goodwin delivered Oliver Finlay – with an assist from her newly minted Mr. “He [the attending physician] just stepped aside and was like, ‘And now Josh…'” Another son, Hugo Wilson arrived on June 1, 2016.
Collaboration
He once described working with Goodwin as, “a dream come true,” and if Dallas has anything to say about it, she’ll soon join him on his latest venture – NBC’s supernatural conundrum Manifest. “We’ll get her. We’ll get her on there.”
According to Dallas, it’s all about, “Understanding,” a willingness to be, “flexible, and just love. You gotta love and be willing to grow with that person, or let that person grow too and give them space.”
