Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer – it was love at first bite for these True Blood co-stars. And though their on-screen romance was eventually shuttered (and Moyer’s Bill was staked through the heart), their off-screen love affair is still going as strong as ever.
According to Moyer, he and Paquin took their requisite chemistry test a little too seriously. “We met screen testing for the show. We were both single at the time, and there was just this kind of spark.
“I didn’t see her for three months, and she had gone from having dark hair to this beautiful blonde, and I had gone from being blond to this dark vampire. By day three or four – oh, this is going to sound so syrupy – but I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. It was within seconds, really, and it just became a thing.”
For a time, the duo attempted to hide their liaison from the series’ cast and crew. Claims Moyer, “It was very important to me that [they] didn’t feel it was fickle…We didn’t want to take anything away from the show.”
On February 24, 2009, Moyer revealed to TV Guide magazine that he and Paquin were a bonafide item. “We are together. It’s exciting and that was there from day one. We’re very, very happy. She’s the best.”
Six months later, People magazine reported that the two were engaged to be married and that the question had been popped on a Hawaiian beach. The wedding was held on August 21, 2010, inside a private Malibu, California villa. Among the event’s guests were actor Elijah Wood and fellow True Blood stars Carrie Preston, Ryan Kwanten, and Sam Trammell.
April 17, 2012: Paquin and Moyer announce that they are expecting their first child through Entertainment Weekly. Later, Paquin discovers that she is actually carrying twins!
The babies were born a few weeks premature in September of the above mentioned year. A full nine months elapse before the names were uttered publicly. Finally, Moyer revealed that they had chosen Charlie for their son and Poppy for their little girl.
Since the babes’ introduction to the world, Paquin has remained resolute in her desire to keep them as far from the glare of a camera as she can. “You won’t find any pictures of my children. That’s a choice we made very specifically … I want the right to say that they’re not fair game.”
Collaboration
Even after seven years of working together on HBO’s vampire-themed serial, Paquin and Moyer are still ready, willing, and able to collaborate with one another. According to the former, “We’re very, very, very comfortable and happy working together. It’s our happy place. It’s how we met, it’s how we fell in love.”
Post-series finale, Moyer directed The Parting Glass, a dramatic film in which Paquin starred and together they executive produced the Pop original dramedy Flack (in which Paquin also starred).
She says it’s all comes down to the fact that she and Moyer are “each other’s best friends… We want nothing but good things for each other. His successes are my successes and vice versa and we’re just really lucky.”
