Amy Poehler and Will Arnett are two comic geniuses, so it’s no surprise they were comedy’s Golden Couple for the near-decade they were married.
Though their relationship ended, these two made sure to give fans countless laughs thanks to the films and television shows they appeared in together. From how the couple met to their eventual split, find out more about this once great celebrity romance.
They didn’t start dating until 2000, after being introduced to one another through friends, but Arnett was interested in the actress long before then. In fact, he saw her performing with the Upright Citizens Brigade in 1996 with his then-girlfriend and later revealed he had a crush on her after seeing her on stage.
Wedding
After the pair started dating, Poehler was cast on Saturday Night Live and Arnett was working on the television show Arrested Development. They spent the first three years of their relationship long distance. Despite not living in the same city for much of their romance, Arnett and Poehler decided to marry, which they did on August 29, 2003.
Starting a Family
Five years later, the happy couple welcomed their first son, Archibald “Archie” William Emerson Poehler Arnett, on October 25, 2008. They welcomed their second son, Abel James Poehler Arnett, on August 6, 2010.
Throughout their relationship, Poehler and Arnett worked together on a number of projects. Poehler appeared on Arnett’s show, Arrested Development, while Arnett appeared on Poehler’s show, Parks and Recreation. The couple played siblings in the 2007 film Blades of Glory and were also both in Horton Hears a Who! and The Secret World of Arrietty.
Parting Ways
After nine years of marriage, they announced their separation on September 6, 2012. Arnett filed for divorce on April 8, 2014. Despite their split, the former pair is still friendly and works hard to co-parent their sons together.
