Emma Stone recently announced her engagement to fiancé Dave McCary, but we’ll never forget her relationship with former co-star Andrew Garfield.
From how these two actors in the public eye first met to their eventual split, find out more about this once-great celebrity romance.
The pair met while she was auditioning to be in The Amazing Spider-Man in 2010. They became very close while filming and definitely had great chemistry, but they were just friends while making the movie, which was released in 2012.
Newly Available
Shortly after filming wrapped, Stone split with her boyfriend of two years, Kieran Culkin, in April 2011. Garfield split from his girlfriend of three years, Shannon Woodward, just one month later in May of 2011. The two then attended Comic-Con together that June, leading people to believe they were an item.
Making It Official
Despite people believing they were a couple during the press tour of their movie, neither Stone nor Garfield led on that the rumor was true. However, in March 2012, the pair were spotted kissing and holding hands in New York, which confirmed their romance. The couple made their red carpet debut in April of 2012 at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
Though we don’t know the exact date Stone and Garfield started their relationship, it’s widely believed the couple called it quits in October 2015 after around three years of dating. Stone briefly addressed her breakup from Garfield in Vogue a year later, mentioning that it had been a “sad” year.
Staying Friends
Though they weren’t meant to last as a couple, Stone and Garfield are still very close. In fact, Garfield was at the 2017 Academy Awards when Stone won the Best Actress Oscar for La La Land (Garfield was also nominated that year for Hacksaw Ridge) and was spotted giving her a standing ovation. They were also seen hugging at a pre-BAFTA party that same month.
