Dylan McDermott and Maggie Q – theirs was a whirlwind courtship that began on a soundstage and managed to survive years after the cancellation of the TV project that brought them together. However, an engagement couldn’t keep them from putting their relationship on permanent hiatus.
She played Lieutenant second grade Beth Davis, officer-in-command of the Threat Assessment Unit. He played Jack Larson, a risk-taking LAPD detective foisted upon the team by his friends in blue.
By the time filming wrapped on the pilot episode of Stalker, CBS’s newest primetime procedural, lead actors Dylan McDermott and Maggie Q were apparently quite the hot and heavy item.
In September of 2014, the pair were spotted shopping together in Brentwood, California and cozying up to one another during an L.A. Lakers game. One month later, a supposed series insider revealed to People magazine that they were indeed dating.
Whirlwind
By December of that year, rumors began to swirl that the co-stars were engaged and by January 2015, Q was sporting a massive diamond ring on the third finger of her left hand.
When asked about the bauble and what it meant for his relationship with Q, McDermott played it coy. “[Maggie] is really one of the smartest people you ever meet. She has incredible questions, she’s so precise. She’s not only beautiful and smart but she’s also so generous as well. She’s the whole thing, the real deal.”
On February 13, 2015, Q opened up to E! News about the momentous occasion. “I don’t know if he wants me to go into the details on how he proposed, but I’ll tell you this much—he more told me that we were gonna be married, which I think is so funny,” she shared. “Because he says, ‘You can’t ask Maggie because you can’t take the risk of Maggie saying no.'”
Life In A Fishbowl
Subsequently, the couple was hounded by the press and fans alike who were desperate for any indication that a wedding would soon be held. You would think he’d be used to that after his previous engagement to superstar Julia Roberts. In July 2017, McDermott revealed that they still, “haven’t set a date as of yet. We are just enjoying being engaged,” and then added, “When you know, you know!”
For her part, Q blamed their careers. “So, yeah, [it’s] because of work and…because you gotta balance everything.”
On February 28, 2019, McDermott and Q officially halted their engagement. The news was a shock to the duo’s multitude of supporters, especially considering that one year previous McDermott had referred to Q as, “my soulmate,” and the woman who, “took my breath away.” Neither party offered further comment.
