R. Kelly left a Chicago jail on Monday, February 25 after posting $100K in bail. He has been charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
He is now a free man while he awaits trial for abusing a number of young women. Kelly plead not guilty to the charges.
The singer spent the weekend in jail after being arrested on Friday, February 22. The judge then set the bail at $1M, but Kelly only had to pay 10 percent to be let go.
However, Kelly said he didn’t have enough money to pay the $100K on Friday, which is why he spent the weekend behind bars.
According to the Chicago Tribune, a 47-year-old woman paid the $100K for Kelly.
Attorney Michael Avenatti tweeted about Kelly’s arrest last week.
“After 25 years of serial sexual abuse and assault of underage girls, the day of reckoning for R Kelly has arrived,” he wrote.
A number of people on Twitter responded to the news of Kelly’s arrest.
“R Kelly is a serial predator who is a danger to vulnerable girls and young women. He won’t end his predation and he will certainly attempt to intimidate witnesses and victims,” one person wrote following his release.
“About time R Kelly is being looked at! All these women that came forward need to have there [sic] voice heard and justified! They all need to stand together if these alleged allegations are true,” somebody else tweeted.
Another person wrote, “It’s about time he faces the consequences of his actions.”
Kelly was arrested just a couple of months after a docu-series about his alleged abuse of young women was released.
