Priscilla Presley hit the road to share intimate details of her life with late singer and actor Elvis Presley.
Among some of the misconceptions that she recently talked about was how her father viewed her relationship with Elvis. Plus, she gave details on how Graceland came about.
As USA Today reported, Priscilla was in New Brunswick, New Jersey’s State Theater Friday night to discuss her life with “The King.” Drummer Max Weinberg of the E Street Band was also on hand for the night called “Elvis and Me — An Evening with Priscilla Presley.”
They talked about the life of Elvis. Priscilla was married to Elvis in 1967, and their marriage lasted five years before separation and divorce. She brought to light interesting details about her relationship. Plus, she explained who Elvis was to her and how she keeps his legacy going.
Among the misunderstood aspects of her life with Elvis, Priscilla mentioned was the idea that her father was “pushing a relationship” between her and Elvis. She said her father was actually happy when Elvis had left the U.S. for Germany for a bit. That allowed Priscilla and her family to get back to their normal life. However, as Priscilla and Elvis continued to correspond via written letters, her parents realized there was “more than just a friendship” going on.
Priscilla also shared that she was “alone” in trying to make Graceland happen after Elvis passed away. The tourist attraction has been open since 1982 and attracts millions of visitors a year. Priscilla said “nobody back[ed] me up” when it came to bringing the attraction about.
In addition to that, Priscilla mentioned that she learned a lot about the live performance from Elvis. Possibly her biggest takeaway was “every audience is different. You cannot depend on an audience loving you. You have to win them over.”
Priscilla Presley previously appeared in the Naked Gun movies as well as the primetime soap opera Dallas.
