Ozzy Osbourne Diagnosed With Parkinson’s Disease

Rock star Ozzy Osbourne entered a new level of fame when he and his family starred in The Osbournes on MTV, one of television’s earliest reality shows. Now, he’s stepped in front of the cameras once again to reveal a personal battle.

Osbourne told ABC news show Good Morning America that he’s been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement.

Ozzy, his wife Sharon Osbourne (The Talk) and children Jack and Kelly, both of whom have competed on Dancing With the Stars, talked to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America to discuss his diagnosis and plans for the future.

“It’s been terribly challenging for us all,” Ozzy said. The music legend took a fall after performing a New Year’s Eve show. That led to surgery, which led to his diagnosis.

“It’s PRKN2,” Sharon said, explaining the specifics of her husband’s condition, which has good days and bad days, hastening to add that this is “not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination.”

Ozzy decided to go public with his condition because “I’m not good with secrets. I cannot walk around with it anymore ’cause it’s like I’m running out of excuses, you know?”

The singer says he’s frustrated because he’s unable to contribute to his family in the same way he once could. However, the clan is united in getting him back into the arena he loves most — performing.

“I understand how when you have something you don’t want to have,” shared Jack, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2012.

Ozzy’s next step is to head to Switzerland to seek some help in getting his immune system at its peak. “We’ve kind of reached a point here in this country where we can’t go any further because we’ve got all the answers we can get here,” said Sharon, who remains confident that her husband will return to performing on stage. “He’s gonna get back out there. And he’s gonna do what he loves to do; I know it.”
