Nicollette Sheridan is saying goodbye to Dynasty in order to focus on her family. In fact, the actress is walking away from the CW show to spend time with her mother, who is terminally ill.
TV Line first reported the news on Monday, February 25 and revealed her last episode is scheduled for March.
“Nicollette Sheridan will be leaving Dynasty in order to focus on some personal family responsibilities,” a rep for Dynasty said.
“She was a valuable asset to the show and we wish her continued success in the future.”
Sheridan explained that she loved being on the show, but that it’s more important for her to spend time with her mom.
“Working on the Dynasty reboot and reprising the iconic role of Alexis has been thoroughly enjoyable, but the chance to spend precious time with my terminally ill mother is more important to me right now,” she said in a statement.
“I am profoundly grateful to Mark Pedowitz (The CW) and David Stapf (CBS) for graciously allowing me to return to Los Angeles to be with her, and I wish them and everyone associated with the show nothing but continued success.”
She continued, “I am hopeful that my fans will embrace my successor with as much passion as they embraced me.”
Sheridan joined the show as Alexis Carrington back during Season 1, which was her first big television role since Desperate Housewives.
Fans reacted to Sheridan’s departure on Twitter and many are sad to see her go.
“She is great, hope she can return at some point next season,” one person wrote.
“I’m sad to see her go! She did a wonderful job reinventing the character but family comes first! My best to her as she spends time with her mom,” another fan tweeted.
