As Days of our Lives gears up for the major returns of Sami, Bo and Hope, there’s another Salem supercouple who could bring back a hint of calmness amid the current chaos.
Will (ex-Chandler Massey, who’s starring in a new Hallmark Channel Christmas movie) and Sonny (ex-Zach Tinker) have been a fan favorite couple since their romance began in 2012. Since, the two have navigated breakups, marriages, parenting woes, and even one’s murder.
Still, Will and Sonny, lovingly known by shippers as WilSon, have made it through it all and came out even stronger. After remarrying on Will’s deathbed in 2019 and endured the LGBTQ+ struggles of adoption, the husbands left Salem for a fresh start in Arizona in 2020.
While Will has popped back home a couple of times since his departure – and notably wrote a Christmas movie themed around his friends and family from Salem – here’s what a permanent return could mean for both the character and his loved ones.

Kate (Lauren Koslow) has already mentioned asking her grandson, an award-winning writer, to look over scripts for Body & Soul. While Wilson’s frenemy Leo (Greg Rikaart) has scored the job of head writer for the fictional soap, having Will step in and inevitably step on Leo’s toes would make for some memorable dramedy between the two men who already can’t stand each other.
Having Will back in Salem would most likely mean having his daughter, Arianna, back in Salem, which could make Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) think twice about any future revenge plots she has in mind. And if she happens to miraculously get pregnant (it’s a soap!) with a DiMera baby after recently sleeping with both Stefan (Brandon Barash) and EJ (Dan Feuerriegel), then all the more reason to have its big sister back home.
Sonny may not have always been full of sunshine – Will’s death, Will returning and falling in love with his ex-fiance, and the death of his mother all taking notable tolls on him – but he seemed in good spirits during his latest return for Xander (Paul Telfer) and Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) wedding.
Now that Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) is back to being Justin’s (Wally Kurth) son, he could sure use his much more levelheaded little brother as he attempts another romance with Stephanie (Abigail Klein). And with Titan falling apart at the seams between Alex’s woes and Xander’s obsession with revenge on Brady, the company (and family, for that matter) are in need of a sane Kiriakis. Insert former CEO, Sonny.
Having this thriving couple back would also bring back the LGBTQ+ representation that DAYS has been lacking. Sure, Leo has never stopped being his sassy self, and Chanel (Raven Bowens) marrying Johnny (Carson Boatman) doesn’t change her fluid sexuality, but Salem has always proven it could never have too many queer characters.
