Doctor Odyssey went there with the throuple plot twist. Avery (Phillipa Soo) ended up in a threesome with Max (Joshua Jackson) and Tristan (Sean Teale). She enjoyed it so much that she wanted more.
The fall finale revealed that she was pregnant. Of course, everyone is wondering who the daddy is. But that’s the least of this show’s problems. Even when The Odyssey returns in March, this storyline won’t last long. It’s too soon for the characters to go through this.
Fans on Reddit brought up some great theories. Most of them believe that the baby could be Max’s. He slept with Avery more than once. The threesome was the first time that Tristan had an intimate moment with Avery, even though he was in love with her.
One fan wrote, “It’s probably a false positive since it’s the first season and shows love that plot one.”
Another Redditor speculated, “Kind of hoping it’s a false positive.”
A third one noted, “I feel like she isn’t actually pregnant, and it’s an error from the test, which is pretty common… or it’s like a phantom pregnancy.
Some fans agreed that it’s too soon for a pregnancy storyline. The primetime soap went all in with the love triangle. But the throuple plot was dropped as soon as it happened. Both Max and Tristan didn’t feel comfortable with playing the third wheel.

Some viewers think the show should’ve slowly eased into the love triangle. Ryan Murphy could’ve introduced the threesome in the season finale. Instead, it happened at the end of E6, which was a sensitive episode. The threesome came out of left field, even though some fans saw it coming.
Season 2 could have delved more into this unconventional relationship. Max, Avery, and Tristan could have tried it out for a few weeks until they realized it was not for them. All of them would have conflicting feelings about being in a trio.
There’s no doubt this show is a hit. It broke records on Hulu alone. It has at least three or four seasons left in it. It was too soon for a pregnancy storyline. Needless to say, this won’t last for long. Avery plans to pursue medical school and become a doctor. She could grapple with these challenges later.
