Here’s How When Calls the Heart Star Kevin McGarry Earned Kayla Wallace’s Love

Kevin McGarry makes Hearties swoon on When Calls the Heart. However, the actor isn’t as good with courtship in real life. He shared the details of how he had to win over his wife, Kayla Wallace.

The cast of WCTH attended the Hallmark Christmas Experience, which was held in Kansas from December 13-15. (See what they have to say about the steamy new season.) Kevin opened up about his relationship with Kayla. He was struck the first moment he met her.

But that wasn’t the case for Kayla. Kevin admitted, “She made me work for it,” during one panel. Kayla turned him down when he first asked her out. The two first met on the set of the Hallmark Channel series.

“The best thing that show has given me is Kayla,” Kevin gushed. “I remember coming out of her trailer. She was on the show, actually, just before me, I believe. And I remember going to set, meeting everybody. I didn’t know who she was or what she was doing there.”

He still remembers the first moment he met Kayla. Kevin remarked there were “cherubs flying around and doves.” He knew he had to get to know her. Kevin joked that Kayla only remembers his long legs the first time they met.

The two became good friends over the years. Kevin wanted to take their relationship to the next level. “And then I asked her out,” Kevin explained. “She said no and made me work for it.” Instagram user Suspenders Unbuttoned posted the full conversation.

Courtship Timeline

Kevin detailed the timeline of when their relationship started. It happened during the COVID lockdown. WCTH was still in production at that time, and the actors had to immerse themselves in protective “bubbles.” Kevin was happy to be in Kayla’s bubble.

She also fell for him, and Kevin earned her love. In September 2024, Kevin revealed at the Hearties reunion that he and Kayla were already married, per Entertainment Now. Kayla announced their engagement on Instagram in December 2022.
