The Real Reason Why Sony Signed Ryan Seacrest For Wheel Of Fortune

Ryan Seacrest is the new host of Wheel of Fortune. He replaced veteran Pat Sajak on Sept. 9. Fans were surprised when Sony announced Ryan as Sajak’s replacement earlier this year. Why was he the first person they had on their mind?

Big Changes

Wheel of Fortune underwent enormous changes during its 41st season. The stage has a whole new look, and it’s more colorful and vibrant than in recent years.

The puzzle board is back to its glamorous self. The production returned to the golden frame, which was prominent during Season 20. This harkens back to the game’s show heyday.

The golden puzzle board and colorful elements make the set look larger. There’s also something else different.

Ryan Seacrest is the new game show host. He’s best known for his longtime role as host of American Idol. Ryan is accompanied by Vanna White, who will continue to be a mainstay on the show.

Despite these changes, Wheel of Fortune is still a hit to this day. The show attracts nearly 8 million viewers per night, reports Nielsen ratings. It’s one of the most-watched game shows.

The Reason Behind Sony’s Decision

The game show’s viewers went through a wave of emotions this year. First, they were saddened to learn that Sajak was retiring from the show. Then, some were irritated to learn that Sony announced Seacrest as his replacement.

Fans couldn’t understand the production’s motive behind the decision. The announcement came with mixed reactions on social media. Tony Vinciquerra, the chairman of Sony, explained to The New York Times why Sony signed Seacrest for the position.

“We want to have the continuity of the host, someone who is well known, and who will travel with the show through that transition,” Vinciquerra said. “I can’t think of a better person to do that with than Ryan.”

Seacrest assured The New York Times that he won’t make the game all about him. He wants to focus on the sense of nostalgia that brings generations together. Seacrest’s goal is to step back and let the game entertain viewers.
