Before Sarah Michelle Gellar became a Primetime TV Icon with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, before she became a big-screen icon with Cruel Intentions, she was a Daytime TV Icon with All My Children. On AMC, she played Kendall Hart, the daughter of the legendary Erica Kane. She ultimately crushed the character and conquered daytime soaps before exiting to star in Buffy and a zillion other TV shows and movies. An audience at a fan event in Brazil recently gave SMG her well-deserved flowers with thundering applause and a standing ovation. Gellar felt the emotion.
Applause, Applause
It all happened at the CCXP, the 2024 Comic Con Experience, held in São Paulo, Brazil, from December 5 to 8. Gellar made an appearance there promoting Showtime’s Dexter prequel, Dexter: Original Sin. She and her cast mates appeared on a panel for the upcoming serial killer drama.

On Sunday, a fan posted a video clip of what looked like the beginning of the Saturday panel. When Gellar walked out, the audience simply showed their love for the actress. It was absolutely in honor of her entire career. Buffy turned her into a groundbreaking force of nature, and the fans have no doubt shown up for her other projects, including the Scooby-Doo films I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream 2, The Grudge, and The Crazy Ones, a CBS comedy that starred the late Robin Williams.
Clearly, the Simply Irresistible star made sure to soak up the moment. The atmosphere was electric, and she looked a bit overwhelmed as she looked out to the crowd, showing how grateful and moved she was. Gellar even posted about the experience on her Instagram account.

In her message, she told her Brazilian fans and 4.6 million followers, “I have so much to post about these last few days in Brazil, but I honestly need a moment. While this is not the most flattering picture of myself (lol), it sums up the emotion I felt. Obrigada, Brasil, por fazer eu me sentir tão amada. Vocês são incríveis!””
The Portuguese part of her post translated to, “Thank you, Brazil, for making me feel so loved. You guys are amazing!”
New Project
The Swans Crossing actress is set to play Tanya Martin, a forensics expert for the Miami Metro Police Department, on Dexter: Original Sin. “We’re playing in the ’90s. I’m used to playing these formidable women, and she’s no exception, but she’s almost an even bigger exception because women didn’t run departments in those jobs,” Gellar told Variety. “So you realize she’s got to be pretty tough to be able to hang with the guys.
Dexter: Orignal Sin premieres on Friday — December 13 — and streams on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. Check out the exclusive clip that played at CCXP Brazil.
