Wheel of Fortune fans noticed that Ryan Seacrest didn’t follow through with tradition. He’s been criticized for his hosting style and made a few mistakes while taking on the new job. However, some viewers wonder if he’s the one who did away with a long-standing tradition.
Seacrest attracted a new league of fans to the classic game show. Ratings got a boost during his first season. Yet, some longtime fans accused Seacrest of making a slight change. One fan asked on Reddit, “Why doesn’t Ryan Seacrest do the final spin?”
It was a sarcastic question that flopped. They added, “Shouldn’t it be a tradition that the host does the final spin? I’m assuming he can’t reach the wheel?” The OP poked fun at Seacrest’s height. However, the question brought up a heavy debate in the thread.
WoF fans noticed that the final spin is no longer part of the show. But Seacrest didn’t make this change. Previous host Pat Sajak did away with it two seasons ago. Some Redditors explained for those who haven’t watched America’s Game Show in a while.
“Pat used to do the final spin, but that changed in S39, allowing contestants who had control of the Wheel to give the final spin,” one user wrote eloquently.
Seacrest didn’t enter the game show arena and call the shots. Sajak made this change so the contestants could control their final gameplay. Oftentimes, it works to their advantage. Over the past few seasons, contestants have walked away with big money and prizes.
WoF fans who miss Sajak will be happy to see him back. Celebrity Wheel of Fortune returned to ABC on Monday, December 3. Sajak reunited with his co-host, Vanna White. Some fans on social media begged Sajak to make a permanent return.
Meanwhile, Seacrest is still trying to win over fans. Some don’t like the show’s changes, like the bright set and the “over-the-top” contestants.
