Soap life is good. Virgin River’s sixth season is just around the corner, and fans are going into the season knowing that there will be a seventh season. So that means we can all breathe and turn our attention to Mel and Jack’s upcoming wedding. What we do know is that from everything we’ve seen and read, Mel and Jack are definitely going to tie the knot. No ceremony that spans as long as Charmaine’s pregnancy. They are getting married. Queue our huge breath of relief.
Knowing that Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) will make their union official doesn’t mean things will be drama-free leading up to the ceremony. Mel’s long-lost dad, Everett (John Allen Nelson of Santa Barbara), has entered his daughter’s serene Virgin River existence. And as a result, her world gets a bit turbulent. According to TV Insider, Everett and Doc (Tim Matheson), Mel’s current father figure, will clash.
That’s no surprise, considering Doc often doesn’t play well with others. We can only imagine that Everett feels a serious amount of guilt that could manifest in unhealthy ways and behaviors.
In addition, Mel and Jack are pretty much the golden girl and golden guy of this small town. Look for their impending nuptials to take on royal wedding status. The VR residents are invested and as a result, the drama will flow freely and frequently right up until Mel and Jack say their “I dos.”
Martin Henderson, who plays Jack, said, “Hope (Annette O’Toole) wants it to be huge and bombastic, and Mel and Jack want it to be special and representative of what they want. There’s some conflict there.”
That tracks for the town’s mayor, who almost always gets carried away. Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Mel, weighed in. “Eventually, she feels like it’s not entirely about her. It’s about her, but it’s not. I think she really wants to make everybody else happy.”

Netflix’s own website, Tudum, confirmed the season seven renewal news. Obviously, the streaming platform knows the juggernaut it has on its hands. So many Netflix series come and go in four seasons or less. Virgin River has the potential to keep going and going. After all, there are over 20 books in author Robyn Carr’s popular series.
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith already dropped a tease about season seven. He previewed how it would explore Mel and Jack’s honeymoon phase. And while the couple’s bond may bend a little, it won’t break.
“I can’t imagine creating a scenario where you think Mel and Jack are going to break up,” Smith revealed to Tudum. “It forces you to dig a little bit deeper into, well, what other issues can they have in their relationship? Especially when you want to keep it through the romance lens.”
Season six of Virgin River premieres next Thursday, December 19 on Netflix.
