QVC has been quietly making this change.
QVC viewers have been seeing fewer of their favorite hosts lately. The home shopping network was originally known for creating public figures from their television hosts. Some of them have successful fashion and lifestyle brands. However, that could change with the growing interest in celebrities and influencers.
The Q is going to look a little different this holiday season. There’s a shift in celebrity-centric shows. For instance, Kim Gravel hosts her own show on Saturday nights. This has been a constant for the past few years. But, these types of shows are becoming more popular.
Chef and former The Chew co-host Carla Hall also had a short-lived show on Saturday nights. She appeared on the network to promote her cookware line, Sweet Heritage.
Legendary fashion designer Dennis Basso has his own show on the network, Dennis & Friends: Holiday Edition. This could become a mainstay moving forward. The focus will be on the fashion designers and celebrity guests.
Even Q2 is mainly focused on vendors selling their products and offerings. Viewers noticed this subtle change on Reddit. The network may want to ramp up sales during the holiday season. Longtime hosts like Mary Beth Roe and Jane Treacy could be phased out for celebrities, influencers, and podcast hosts.
Reports show that the QVC Group is testing out this new strategy. They want to feature their celebrity roster heavily. It makes sense since public figures are comfortable in front of the camera. The Q also doesn’t have to worry about vetting and training new hosts.
“World’s largest production platform for creating engaging, shoppable, live content featuring our extensive roster of Hosts and Celebrities,” the network was recently quoted in a statement.
Viewers have become familiar with hosts like David Venable over the years. But as more people cut the cord, this is the latest attempt to generate more revenue. They want to bring in more big names like Elton John and Coldplay.
