Soap alum Josh Duhamel has a slew of projects coming up, but one of the most high-profile ones is a Netflix western called Ransom Canyon.
Texas Cowboy
Ransom Canyon will call on Josh Duhamel (Leo Du Pres, All My Children) to ride a horse and basically live his best cowboy life. While the actor hails from North Dakota, his new drama is set in Texas. According to Tudum, Netflix’s online arm, the upcoming series “is a romance-fueled family drama and contemporary Western saga that charts the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country.”
This modern Western is based on a popular book series by New York Times bestselling author Jodi Thomas. Duhamel plays Staten Kirkland, “owner and sole occupant of the sprawling Double K Ranch. Staten leads the charge to resist the outside forces threatening his way of life and the land that he loves.”
Ransom Canyon sounds Yellowstone-ish but is set in Texas instead of Big Sky country. In addition to Duhamel, the cast also includes Friday Night Lights star Minka Kelly, Sweet Tooth‘s James Brolan, Eion Macken from La Brea, Lizzie Greene from A Million Little Things, Justin Johnson from Walker: Independence, Strike Back‘s Philip Winchester, and veteran actor Brett Cullen from Legacy, Devious Maids, and most recently, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.
According to the show’s executive producer and creator, April Blair, the Western “has it all.” In fact, she predicted to Tudum, “I think people are going to fall in love with this little slice of Texas and the dramas and romances that we created there.” So expect themes like “the burning desire to protect your family. It’s cowboys and lovers, grifters and thieves. Lust, deceit, heartache, and more,” Blair continued.
Ransom Canyon drops April 17 on Netflix. Check out Duhamel in the brand-new teaser below.
