9-1-1 fans are convinced that Eddie and Buck are the “endgame.” They’re waiting for the day when they fall in love. However, considering what Eddie said on Thursday’s episode, that might not happen. At least, not anytime soon.
On the Thursday, November 7th episode of 9-1-1, Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) goes to confession. It’s been 23 years since his previous visit. The priest asked him to just give him “the highlights.” Eddie confessed about his relationship with his son Christopher and how he’s failed to protect him.
The priest accepted his confession and told him to pray five “Our Fathers” and a decade of the Rosary. Eddie was shocked by his penance. Then, he said that he didn’t deserve forgiveness before rushing out of the confessional.
Later in the episode, Eddie goes to a juice bar. He runs into the priest, who recognizes his voice. At first, Eddie thought the man was hitting on him since he didn’t wear his cassock. Eddie confirmed his sexuality, responding, “I’m straight.”
Father Brian told Eddie that he chose water over juice because he doesn’t believe he deserves joy. He advised Eddie to accept forgiveness and do something joyful after receiving his penance—of course, not the kind of joy that would lead one to sin.
Eddie managed to find his joy. He shaved off his mustache and danced in his tightie whities like Tom Cruise did in the hit ’80s flick Risky Business. A solemn Buck (Oliver Stark) showed up at his door. He just ended his relationship with Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.).
What does this mean for their friendship? Will it become something more, even though Eddie said he’s straight? In April, Guzman told Parade that he’s aware that the fanbase ships Eddie and Buck. He addressed whether the two characters would have a chance for romance.
“As far as [Eddie’s] sexuality, I think it’s pretty clear that he’s tried to fill in this motherly, this wife-type role—that’s all he knows,” Guzman explained. “And he’s a man [that] first off, he’s Catholic. Second off, he’s from the military. So those are very straight-edge kinds of lifestyles that don’t offer too much exploring.”
Eddie has always allowed Buck a safe space to be himself, and this will continue for the pals. Guzman hinted that Eddie would have to find himself before entering any relationship. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comment section.
