Little ones who love Dancing with the Stars are in for a treat when Reading Rainbow returns. The beloved PBS program, which has been off the air since 2009, returns in October with a new host, a new format, and guest stars who’ll tickle kids’ dancing feet, much like DWTS pro dancers Rylee Arnold and Ezra Sosa.
The show’s youngest pros are stepping away from the ballroom to join the fun on Reading Rainbow‘s revival season. Their segment features jumpsuits and glow-in-the-dark paint, as they enjoy creating a colorful mess together in the name of chaotic art.

Reading Rainbow Release Date
The new Reading Rainbow debuts on Saturday, October 4 at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET on the KidZuko YouTube channel. There will be four episodes in total, which will run the show through October 25. The episodes will also be available on readingrainbow.org. The digital release is a departure from the show’s previous format, which saw it airing on broadcast. This is likely a response to where children of this generation are most watching TV, which is YouTube and streaming platforms.
Mychal Threets, the Internet’s favorite librarian, is the host of the program. He’s bringing his usual brand of joy to the new iteration, fostering the curiosity of young minds like he does in his library work and the content he creates online. Along with Rylee Arnold and Ezra Sosa, Threets will be joined by the following friends of Reading Rainbow:
- Bellen Woodward, the 14-year-old author of More Than Peach (illustrated by Fanny Liem)
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach, The Bear actor and cat dad
- Jamie Chung, actress, narrating No Cats in the Library by Lauren Emmons
- Gabrielle Union, actress, narrating More Than Peach
- Adam DeVine, comedian and actor, narrating Moo Hoo by Audry Perrott and illustrated by Ross Burach
- Chrissy Teigen (author and TV personality) and John Legend (music artist), narrating Tiny Troubles: Nellie’s Purpose by Sophia Diao
Reading Rainbow is co-produced by Embassy Row and Buffalo Toronto Public Media.
