While most of America is getting ready for Thanksgiving, ABC has Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest on the mind. The end of the year is fast approaching, and all eyes are on Chicago now that the Windy City will be home to the new Central Time zone segment. Mayor Brandon Johnson seemed to hint that historian Shermann Dilla Thomas would make an appearance, but, as for hosting duties, ABC has announced that honor has gone to award-winning artist Chance the Rapper.

Key Takeaways

  • Chance the Rapper’s history with Chicago
  • The hosts revealed so far for the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve

One of Chicago’s Own Steps Up to Host

Chance the Rapper was born and raised in Chicago. He’s deeply engaged in the community work and the political environment of his city. Though he came to prominence as a hip-hop artist, he’s just as well known for his social activism, which was fostered by his parents, Ken and Lisa. Their political ties extend to President Barack Obama.

Outside of his music and activism, Chance is known to TV audiences for his mentoring on The Voice. He was a coach for seasons 23 and 25. His appointment as co-host for Chicago’s segment of New Year’s Rockin’ Eve may mean viewers are in for a performance from the star. Chance’s latest album, STAR LINE, came out in August of this year and he wrapped his 15-date And We Back tour in October.

There’s no word yet on whether Chance will be partnered with someone else, like his fellow co-hosts of the holiday program. But Chicagoans, and the rest of America, can expect the Windy City to go all-out in their celebration. There will be music, a fireworks display over the area’s iconic bridges, and ABC7’s Terell Brown and Cheryl Scott will continue their tradition of ushering in the new year with an impeccable dance routine.
