The Modern Family company is mourning the loss of a beloved pet. The dog had been a part of the show’s family and cast since season 4.
Modern Family Faces Sad Loss
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Stella (real name Beatrice), Jay’s (Ed O’Neill) bulldog, has passed away. No cause of death has been reported.
Cast member Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) posted a photo of Beatrice on the Modern Family set with a farewell note. “Rest in peace sweet Beatrice. We love you so much.”
Jay was bestowed with the dog (reluctantly) in Season 2. Back then, another dog played the part. In Season 4 of the long-running ABC family sitcom, Beatrice took over the beloved role.
O’Neill was quite fond of his TV dog. He gave her treats and kept an eye on her when she was on set. Modern Family wasn’t Beatrice’s only gig. Her other credits include Workaholics and The Kominsky Method. She also appeared in commercials for Chase Bank and Dunkin’ Donuts.
Man’s — and TV’s Best Friend
Other famous TV dogs — both real and animated — include Brian Griffin (Family Guy), Lassie (Lassie), Tiger (The Brady Bunch), Astro (The Jetsons), Scooby-Doo (Scooby-Doo), Rin Tin Tin (Rin Tin Tin), Buck (Married With Children), Lucy (The Ghost and Mrs. Muir), Tramp (My Three Sons), The Beverly Hillbillies (Duke), Krypto (The Adventures of Superboy), and Snoopy (A Charlie Brown Christmas). And on Petticoat Junction the dog on the show was simply called “Dog!”
Beloved pets have appeared on soaps, too. There were the dogs Foster and Annabelle on General Hospital. Bonkers the cat was on All My Children. More recently, Zoe (Kiara Barnes) on The Bold and the Beautiful had a cat named Harry. Lucy had a duck on General Hospital named Seigmund. Now, Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) has a pet lizard named Roxy. Speaking of Roxy, Lizzie Spaulding (Crystal Hunt) had a pooch by the name.
Entertainment Hub sends O’Neill, the rest of the Modern Family company, and Beatrice’s real-life family. Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
