Mira Furlan, who played the mysterious Danielle Rousseau on Lost and Minbari Ambassador Delenn on Babylon 5, died on Wednesday at the age of 65.
The cause of her death was not disclosed. Michael Straczynski, writer and executive producer for Babylon 5, confirmed the sad news on Twitter.
“It is a night of great sadness, for our friend and comrade had gone down the road where we cannot reach her,” he wrote. “But as with all things, we will catch up with her in time, and I believe she will have many stories to tell us, and many new roles to share with the universe.”
The writer posted a touching two-page memorial to Furlan, talking about what a kind and talented performer the Yugoslavian actress was and how the entire cast of Babylon 5 would miss her.
“The cast members with whom she was especially close since the show’s end will need room to process this moment, so please be gentle if they are unresponsive for a time,” Straczynski wrote. “We have been down this road too often, and it only gets harder.”
Furlan came to the U.S. from Yugoslavia in 1991, having established herself on the stage and screen in her home country. One of her best-known roles at the time was playing Ankica Vidmar in When Father Was Away on Business, a film that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1985.
Once in the U.S., it only took about a year for her to land her Babylon 5 role and become a fan-favorite quickly, appearing in all 111 episodes across five seasons. She appeared in 20 episodes of Lost across its six seasons. Most recently, she appeared in the sci-fi series, Space Command, playing Vonn Odara.
Mira. Furlan is survived by her husband, director Goran Gajić, and their son, Marko. Entertaint Hub sends condolences to them, as well as the rest of her family, friends, and fans during this very difficult time.
