Mia St. John lost not only her son, Julian, who died in 2014 but also her ex-husband, Julian’s father, Kristoff St. John, beloved as Neil on The Young and the Restless, who died just over a year ago. Now, she’s speaking out in an effort to help others.
Mia St. John Opens Up
Mia is appearing on The Doctors Tuesday, speaking to the show’s hosts on the topic of mental health. She talks about how the failures of the mental health treatment led to Julian’s suicide, and how that tragedy led to the death of Kristoff, who died of heart failure.
“There were so many errors, from having plastic bags in the suicide unit … not doing the mandatory checks … my son was on a powerful antipsychotic, which toxicology came back and there was no antipsychotic in his system,” Mia says.
Asked if she thinks that Julian’s death led to Kristoff’s passing, Mia responds. “I don’t think, I know. We were both terribly depressed and feeling suicidal… his was so much deeper… Kristoff didn’t really understand mental illness.”
