Why Meredith Has To Stay On Grey’s Anatomy Forever

Meredith Grey started Grey’s Anatomy off 15 years ago and life hasn’t been the same since. While countless characters have come and gone over the seasons, Meredith’s always been there. From losing loved ones to having a family of her own, there’s really nothing Meredith hasn’t been through!

Though we’re OK with certain characters coming and going, here’s why Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) has to stay on Grey’s Anatomy forever.

5. A Show By Any Other Name
Whether we like it or not, the show Grey’s Anatomy literally has her name in the title (a nod to the textbook Gray’s Anatomy). Sure, the show could technically go on without her, but it would be very weird to name the show after a character who isn’t even on it anymore. Maybe if Lexie Grey was still alive… but she’s not.

4. Long History
Because she’s one of the longest-running characters on the show, Meredith’s by far the most interesting. Her history with her parents, her relationship with Derek, and her determination to become the best doctor all make her so fun to watch. She manages to balance work life with her personal life better than any other character.

3. Center of The Universe
Again, because she’s been on the show since the beginning, she’s connected with all of these characters. Richard Webber is basically her adopted father, Maggie Pierce and Amelia Shepherd are her sisters, Alex Karev is her best friend…everyone has some relation to Meredith.

2. Moral Center
While it may not always seem like it at the time, Meredith’s one of the only characters who actually does what is right when she’s supposed to. Yes, she makes mistakes, but she always has a good reason for making them. So many characters on this show make terrible decisions, so they need Meredith to steer them in the right direction.

1. She’s The Best Character Hands Down
There have been a lot of great characters on Grey’s Anatomy, but Meredith is simply the best. She is the most dynamic character, she has the best storylines, and she carries the show on her back. The bottom line? The show would not be the same without her!
