Megan Mullally – actress, comedienne, and singer. Her natural talent has translated into numerous accolades and honors and she’s soon to receive yet another one: the title of birthday girl!
And that’s because she was born on November 12, 1958, in Los Angeles, California, which means that this much beloved performer is turning 62 years old today! Mullally’s interest in acting developed during her sophomore year of college. By her junior year, she was performing in up to eight shows per week – a major factor in her decision to forgo further higher education.
Among Mullally’s earliest professional jobs was a commercial for fast food restaurant McDonald’s, which co-starred future Roseanne and The Conners star John Goodman. Mullally made her film, television movie, and TV series debuts in Risky Business (1983), The Children Nobody Wanted (1981), and The Ellen Burstyn Show (1986-1987) respectively.
She went on to appear in a plethora of primetime programs including Murder, She Wrote (1988), Almost Grown (1989), China Beach (1989), Wings (1990), My Life and Times (1991), Rachel Gunn, R.N. (1992), Seinfeld (1993), and Ned and Stacy (1997).
Mullally’s other film credits include Once Bitten (1985), Last Resort (1986), Everything Put Together (2000), and Speaking of Sex (2001). She made her Broadway debut in the 1994 revival of Grease and subsequently appeared in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (1995) and Young Frankenstein (2007).
In 1998, Mullally landed her most high profile role to date: the sardonic, narcotics addicted boozehound, and, surprisingly efficient secretary, Karen Walker on the much-beloved sitcom Will & Grace.
For her efforts, Mullaly would win two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (2000, 2006), and three Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series (2002, 2003, 2004).
Mullally’s resume also includes a one-year stint as hostess of the daily talk show The Megan Mullally Show (2006-2007), advertisements for M&M’s, Old Navy, and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, guest spots in 30 Rock and Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List, and starring roles in Party Down (2007), Children’s Hospital (2009-2016), and In the Motherhood (2009).
Mullally is also a voice actress who has contributed to such animated fare as Herman’s Head (1991-1993), I Yabba-Dabba Do! (1993), A Flinstone Family Christmas (1993), Batman: The Animated Series (1994), and Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015).
Outside of her acting, Mullally is known for being a member of the bands Supreme Music Program and Nancy & Beth. She is also a published memoirist – The Greatest Love Story Ever Told (published October 2, 2018).
Mullally has been married to Nick Offerman – a fellow actor whom she met during a production of the play The Berlin Circle – since 2003. The couple has acted opposite one another in a multitude of projects including the films Smashed (2012) and The Kings of Summer (2013) as well as TV shows like Will & Grace, and Parks & Recreation (2009-2015; 2020).
