We’re hoping to complete the circle. If you get riveted and caught up with the animal and his or her parents, we don’t want to leave you hanging with unanswered questions. There’s going to be emotion, hope, inspiration, and gratitude.

Will this help people realize what signs to look for when their pets are sick?
A vet can look at your pet and understand what’s [wrong] by looking at them or doing tests.

We had a test run and a dog come in who’d eaten [someone’s underwear]. I thought he’d pass it, but they had to cut the dog open and go into the stomach. The takeaway is, “When do you know to take your dog to the vet?”

We’re coming on up a time of year when dogs get into all kinds of things [that are harmful]. This show will help educate. The real heroes of this show are the veterinarians.

My prediction is that this show could be a vehicle to find veterinarian stars just as we’ve watched the culinary industry blow up with chefs becoming famous.

You left Home & Family last year abruptly. Can you talk about what happened?
There’s so much that I’ve kept quiet about. There’s an ongoing lawsuit that’s happening. All I can say is what happened really hurt and still does.

I still struggle with it. I have to focus on my future. I’m blessed to have this opportunity [with Nat Geo WILD] and I’ve felt that way about all my gigs.

Animal ER Live airs Saturday and Sunday nights on Nat Geo WILD at 9 p.m. ET/PT, for four weeks premiering Saturday, March 30.
