Law and Order: SVU’s Dominick Carisi (Peter Scanavino) is focused on doing his job to the best of his abilities, but he’s never afraid to make things personal when he needs to — and his faith is a huge part of who he is personally.

In this highlight video from last week’s episode, Carisi opens up to his counterpart from Ohio about his feelings on a woman’s right to choose — and his mother’s difficult decision to have an abortion when she was in her 40s.

“My mother got pregnant when she was 45, this is after having four kids. An ultrasound showed that the baby had a fetal heart defect. Even if she was able to carry to term, the doctors said the baby wasn’t going to live for more than a few days,” he told Graham (Christian Clemenson).
