On Law & Order: SVU, Mariska Hargitay portrays a woman other women can look up to in Captain Olivia Benson. The actress took the opportunity to pay tribute to a woman whom she admires — the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who passed away at the age of 87 last week.
“Thank you @michelereisch for your beautiful tribute to the graceful, fierce, formidable, honorable and #Supreme RBG,” shared Hargitay upon seeing Reisch’s artwork honoring the late justice. “#BeautyIsEverywhere #HerStrengthIsEverywhere #nycstreetart #ThePowerOfArt #Art May we continue to carry on her Strength, her Spirit, and her Heroic work.”
Another Instagram user, @thequeensquotations, posted one of Ginsburg’s memorable quotes in response: “’I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to the very best of her ability.’ – RBG ♥️♥️♥️”
“My two hero’s in this whole world…You and RBG 🤍,” posted @mhmyworld.
“Her contributions are everywhere we look and in everything we see. ♥️♥️♥️,” posted @biochickcath. “#RestInPower #WomensRightsAreHumanRights.”
“That’s beyoutiful❤️👑,” posted @michelle.macc, “i bet the streets of NYC are filled with tributes to her, they are here in Dallas🙂.”
“May her memory be a blessing 🤍🙏🏼Eternal Queen,” posted @mhmyworld.
That last sentiment was shared on another post by Hargitay to Instagram. She wrote that next to an image that had text reading as follows, “As we grapple with RBG’s passing, the most important way to honor her is to grow more galvanized than we have ever been.
“Yes, our hearts are broken,” it says, “Yes, the political turmoil has exhausted us. But let those feelings of anxiety and fear push us to redouble our efforts and salvage the Supreme Court. We can’t risk losing our rights as women and people. This is what RBG would demand of herself and us.
“We are not helpless: you have the power of your voice, of your words. Please, I urge you to take a brief moment as often as you can to call your senators @2020-224-3121 and ask them not to confirm a new justice before the inauguration.
“There is no democracy,” it states, “without the direct action of motivated people. I believe in the power of us. Take care of yourselves, please continue to wear a mask, stay strong and stay safe.” Law & Order: SVU returns for Season 22 on Thursday, November 20.
