Looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of Detective Kat Azar Tamin in the future on Law & Order: SVU! Jamie Gray Hyder, who played the former Vice officer on the NBC primetime show, has just been promoted to series regular, filling the opening left by Carisi, who went to work for the D.A.’s office.

Law & Order: SVU Promotion

Hyder made her first appearance on the show during the Season 21 premiere. She went undercover as an actress in order to expose a movie producer, played by Ian McShane, as a sexual abuser. She then became a detective and transferred over to the Special Victims Unit, allowing the audience to slowly get to know the new recruit.

The actress shared the exciting news to her Instagram page on Monday, alongside a photo of herself with Detective Olivia Benson, played by original cast member and SVU executive producer, Mariska Hargitay.

“Well, it’s official, folks!! Kat Azar-Tamin (and myself) have been upgraded to a series regular on @nbcsvu,” she wrote. “Couldn’t ask for a better boss (on-screen and off!) or a better group of people to work with every day. Thank you @wolfentertainment for trusting me to take part in this historic show 🙌🏼 #SVU #SVU21

Hyder also shared a few photos to Instagram following the premiere episode, including one with McShane. “Introducing ‘Kat’ to the world alongside the @nbcsvu cast & the legendary Ian McShane was an honor. Stay tuned as #SVU21 has a lot more in store,” she wrote back in September.

Other series regulars this season include Mariska Hargitay, Kelli Giddish (Rollins), Ice-T (Fin), and Peter Scanavino (Carisi). This season has been full of jaw-dropping storylines and incredible guest stars, and this week’s episode looks to be no exception, as Margaret Cho is stopping by.

In fact, Cho took to Twitter on Friday, November 1 to share a sneak peek into Thursday’s episode, writing, “OH ITS GOING DOWN BECAUSE MORANNNNNNNN IS IN THE HOUSE @nbcsvu.”

What do you think of the decision to make Hyder a series regular? Do you like her character? Let us know what you think in the comments section below and make sure to watch the rest of the season when it airs on Thursdays on NBC.
