The lawyers and detectives try to get along on Law & Order: SVU, but sometimes they butt heads, especially when it comes to deciding what’s best for their clients.
In this deleted scene from a 2017 episode of the show, Carisi (Peter Scanavino) finds Barba (Raúl Esparza) in Olivia Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) office and decides to show off his knowledge of international law following Fin’s (Ice-T) extradition of Byron Marks from Cuba.
“Now, in order to establish a political question, the complaining country, Cuba, needs to show it’s got the standing to do so in the first place. That means it would have to show it was harmed, now how do you harm a country? You harm its citizens. So, obviously, by that logic, Fin harmed Byron by snatching him up,” Carisi says before revealing he believes Byron’s wife will testify.
“Oh Rafael, are you mad that you didn’t think about it first?” Carisi asks smugly before Barba says, “Didn’t have to, Dworkin gave his notice.” Watch above to see this scene that never made it onto the NBC hit show.
